Two key budget hearings to follow: Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey testifying before the Senate Armed Services Committee at 9:30 a.m. EST, and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner discussing the facts and figures before the Senate Finance Committee at 10 a.m. EST.
There's also bound to be a lot of talk Tuesday among members of the U.S. House about a proposal by GOP leaders to extend the payroll tax cut through the end of the year without finding a way to pay for it. A vote on the measure could come this week.
Out on the GOP campaign trail, Rick Santorum will be busy in Idaho Tuesday. He has a 12 p.m. PST rally in Coeur d'Alene, and another one at 7 p.m. MST in Boise. Idaho holds its primary March 6, Super Tuesday. Newt Gingrich campaigns in California where his schedule includes a 2:30 p.m. PST stop in Tulare. California's primary is June 5.
Mitt Romney will be at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City for a fundraiser, and Ron Paul's Tuesday schedule was not available on his web site. No details on Libertarian Candidate Gary Johnson's whereabouts, either.
And then there is this: At 12 p.m. EST, there will be a Dogs Against Romney protest outside the Westminster Dog Show at Madison Square Garden. The protest stems from the story about Romney putting his Irish Setter Seamus in a dog crate and strapping it to the top of the family station wagon for a drive from Boston to Ontario, Canada.
